Yes thats right you heard it here... Coconut Hut is indeed closing. It is sad in many ways but the reasons behind this decision are very positive. The lady who founded Coconut Hut and who currently manages the company wishes to devote more time to her young family. She says of the business,

"It is a very full time ocupation running a company, and this is not something that can be achieved well unless you devote all of your energy, spirit, passion and commitment to it. It is not something that works if you manage it on a part time basis. Some sacrifices have to be made somewhere and I cannot let that be to the detriment of my child. I am therefore closing the company to be a mother for a while. Children are only small once and life is frankly too short to miss these magical times".

Coconut Hut will be closing in the near future, date to be confirmed on the website. In the longer term, Coconut Hut may very well re-open again at some stage but it is far too early to speculate at this stage. In the mean time however..... We have a MASSIVE SALE ON!! You can grab yourself an absolute bargain.

These really are 100% Crazy and we absolutely love them. The wonderful Huzzah pointy wizard Hats are hand made in Thailand and are so fantasticaly colourful its untrue. Perfect for Festivals and for dressing up in a generaly eccentric way. Hats of this style are traditionaly used by workers in the paddy fields in South East Asia to protect the wearer from the sun. This mad multi-coloured version is made up from a mixture of different colour fabrics and layered to form the stripes.

Each hat is unique and no two are the same... in general though some are more rainbow multi-coloured and some are more made of more pink stripes. This product is certified Fair Tade.

The many uses of The Sarong

Colourful Beach Sarongs are an essential summer accessory and are a great excuse to carry around a vibrant splash of colour. But here we explain why you do not necessarily need to be going away to a distant tropical shore just to own one. They are extremely versatile and frankly - Irresistable! So the question is no longer, How to wear a sarong? But instead.... What are the many uses of a Sarong?! Below are just a few suggestions:

1. In hot weather especially use instead of your usual bath towel when you get out of the shower. Simply slip it around you and carry on about your business around the home without the need for getting dressed.

2. Take it with you on picnics and to parks and festivals, they are great to sit on and take up so little space in your bag.

3. Fold in a groovy way and tie into a skirt, perhaps over leggings if you wish, then put on a vest top and there you have a new outfit.

4. Got long hair or dreadlocks, or just want a colourful head piece? then wrap around your hair and head in a turban sort of way and style your sarong into a unique head scarf anyhow you please.

5. Need some colour and decoration on your walls and something with a little texture? then drape onto walls or ceilings using small nails or pins (depending on the consistency of your walls and who of course owns them!) to create a crazy behemian atmosphere. Similarly if you have a boring chair, sofa or table then why not use as throws about the home.

6. Going to a distant tropical or mediterranean shore, plush spa pool or the English Riviera?! Then it is of course absolutely vital that you have a sarong with you. Wrap it around you as you smooch out of the ocean or pool and thow around you in a lazy summers way prior to venturing into the bar. Do not limit to just wearing the Sarong though - use it equally for sitting on at the beach! It weighs a lot less than a beach towel, dries much quicker and fits snuggly into your beach bag.

7. Sarongs also make fabulous scarves and shawls, be it on a slightly breezy summers evening when you find your sarong randomly there in your bag - or in the bleakest of winter days. Use your sarong to add that ray of colour and 'je ne sais quoi' to your outfit by wrapping effortlessly around your neck and shoulders.

8. And when you really have totaly exhausted your sarong please re-cycle! cut into pieces and use as dish cloths or for polishing or take to a textile recycling facility.

Sunshine, Mid Winter Cheekyness & Positive Vibes

Hello Funksters & Coconutters reading this, its been a while hasn't it? well not that long but it seems we have become a bit behind with keeping up with this blogging thing. Well one excuse we have is that we were in fact being a bit cheeky over Christmas and New Year and were hopping around a few tropical islands in Thailand. Cheeky or what! Some people say, oh you cant run a business and go for sunny mid winter holidays.. well we strongly disagree! what is the enjoyment in life if you don't takes a few risks and make a few sacrifices from time to time. Yes we had to close down for three weeks and loose a few sales, but you know what - It didn't really make all that much difference in the grand scale of things and we're all the happier for it Yeah! In fact we are better for it and working more productively and positively.

All this economic doom and gloom about at the moment is such a drag and will bring you down just by listening to it. We say STOP listening to the headlines of Doom and get out there and do something positive, get out into nature, create something, stop and smell the roses, see the humour in everyday life. Get some music on and get the flow of positive energy moving and grooving and good things will come to you.
